Coach Carlos Alexander is a Special Needs Fitness Coach based out of Miami, FL and is the founder of Fitness Sports Karate Inc. His interest in fitness and helping people with special needs of all ages has a long arc based on his own personal experience with special needs, learning disabilities and his self-determination to overcome them.

At an early age Coach Carlos Alexander took an interest in learning and practicing the martial arts beginning with the karate style of Tae Kwon Do at the age of 7 when he had been diagnosed with ADHD. Despite his disabilities he stuck with it and achieved the high rank of 1st degree Black belt at the age of 11. His interest in the martial arts didn’t end there though because he went on to learn the style of Kenpo Kung Fu at the age of 12 reaching the high rank of 1st degree black belt at the age of 16. Coach Carlos Alexander’s drive to pursue the martial arts went on to include MMA Karate by the age of 17 and reaching the high rank of 3rd degree black belt by the age of 30. During those formative years he also played football for Hialeah High School from 1994 to 1995 as a linebacker, kicker and offensive linemen.

Besides studying and excelling at the Asian martial arts he also took an interest in boxing at the young age of just 10 years old when his father would take him to two of the most famous old boxing gyms. Among these was the famous 5th Street Gym in South Beach of Miami Beach, FL. This is the very same gym where many boxing legends would train most notably Muhammad Ali. Coach Carlos was trained at this famous gym by one of the Greatest Light Weight Boxing Boxers of the 20th century, Beau Jack. The other well-known gym he trained at was the Karon Boxing Gym in Miami, FL and was trained by one of the greatest Cuban boxing trainers in the history of the sport, Mr. Karon.

Coach Carlos Alexander boxed well into his late twenties and loved to compete in karate competition events such as point fighting and MMA fights. He is a former one time Florida State Fighting Champion in Point Fighting along with the 2002 Bluegrass Lightweight Point Fighting World Champion and many MMA fights in the ring. At the age of 27 he officially retired from karate fighting competitions events.

Using his extensive knowledge and skills Coach Carlos Alexander began teaching karate to children of all abilities including those with special needs and children with disabilities as young as 4 years of age. This soon led him to expand his teaching into daycare centers when he was only 20 years old and well into his mid 30s. Around this time he began to incorporate sports and exercises as part of his program which he used as a PE teacher for daycare centers, private schools and with his dedication to children of all abilities, special needs, and those with disabilities as young as 4 years old.
